Hope everyone is having a great Valentine's day! I somehow convinced Wes to go to the church Valentine's dinner and dance last night. It was fun to be with our friends there and the kids had a blast with the baby-sitter, so it was a great night.
Some of the most exciting news is that my brother, Jared just got his mission call to Nicaragua! I'm so excited for my brother. I know it will be a great experience for him. It's pretty crazy to think that he won't meet our baby until he/she is almost 2 though!
Does anybody have any ideas of ways to get your four year old to stay in bed/asleep all night? Jazlyn was having nightmares a few months ago and was waking up at night, and now it's turning into a habit, where she wakes up more nights than not, just merely for comfort, even though she's still not having nightmares. We've tried a reward chart, and that works ok, but she still only sleeps through the night a couple of times a week. We really want this habit broken before the baby gets here, so we're not having the whole family awake in the middle of the night. Any ideas are helpful!!

Get her really tired during the day. Start a workout program, play at a park, have a rowdy wrestling session with Dad just before bed, then give her a drink of warm milk with honey in it just before she goes to sleep. If none of that works, please accept my condolences.
If we have a habit start like that we finally have to just get up in the night and take the kids back to thier room. It usually will work after one or two nights.
Tayson did the same thing around 3. He would wake up due to a nightmare and then would want us to sleep with him or would continue to wake up several times through the rest of the night. Don't know if this will work for you...but we just started having Tayson say a prayer before he goes to bed that he would have good dreams. I put a picture of Jesus in his room and told him that Jesus would help him while he slept. We talk about all the silly things that he could dream about that night and then we went to bed. He still had a bad dream here and there but for the most part it is much better. Good luck!
Our kids haven't ever really had nightmares but we lock our door at night so they just can't climb into our bed while we're sleeping. This forces us to get up when they are crying at the door and take them back to their room. It will probably take a few nights, but that is what worked for us.
Lock her in her room... j/k
We taught Jane that when she is worried or scared, she should sing I Am A Child Of God and say a prayer. Usually we are also involved, but sometimes not. Good luck.
Congrats to Jared! What an awesome missionary he'll be! When she's really not having a bad dream just being consistent probably will make the biggest difference. Keep walking her back to bed. We use a night light in the boy's room. If they get up just for attention they loose the night light. It can be dramatic at two in the morning, but the idea with a warning is usually all it takes, "if you get out of bed again I'll have to turn off your night light." These other comments sound great too. Good luck!
Ya for Jared! That is so exciting. I have no idea how to help a 4 year old stay in bed Good luck!
